Peter was embarrassed with such condescension of the Lord and said, -
"thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, if I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me" [John 13:8.]
Peter had a "heavenly revelation" and a corresponding love for who Jesus was, and how grievous it was to consider not having a "part" with Jesus, and so upon The Lord's stated "absolute", Peter makes an over exuberant reply, concerning being washed, and says, -
"not my feet only but also my hands and my head" [John 13:9.] How eager Peter was to have a "part" with Christ, and what greatness, we are called to share in, with The Lord!
There is only ONE requirement, to have a part with The King of Kings and Lord of Lords and that is ...
David had the same heart as Peter, as he wept before The Lord and cried ...
"Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a right spirit within me" [Psalm 51:10.]
BE ENCOURAGED greatly with this thrilling invitation to, have a "Part" with The Lord, and bring everything that is in our hearts to Him; we are told ...
"If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me" [Psalm 66:18.]
"Iniquity in the heart" is referring to harbouring hard attitudes, such as bitterness, and resentment; iniquity in the heart of course, predisposes a person toward sinful actions, but if we regard the attitudes of malice The Lord will not hear us, and if not cleansed and our hearts renewed and assured before Him, then having a part with The Lord is held in His dealings, as with the self righteous tendencies of Job and the vicious legalistic, judgemental attacks of his three friends; by the wonderful grace of God, Job ended up
"repenting in dust and ashes" [Job 42:6.] and the three, finger pointing friends, had to go to Job for prayer and forgiveness: [Job 42:8.] How grave are these issues today, with such a lack of the great love of Christ in the church, as The Word says, "Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold"; [Matthew 24:12.] Also coming upon mankind, is an ever powerfully growing love of Self, swamping the whole world with peril. [2 Timothy 3:1.]
The Lord encourage us in his Love and Grace to have more and more, that very Precious Part with Him, as described by Paul to the church at Galatia.
"I live by the faith of The son of God who loved me and gave himself for me" [Galatians 2:20.]
Jesus loves You.
God Bless.
