8 And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.

23 And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:

24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.

For your mercy upon our many "great wrestlings" and for teaching us as you did Rachel that You can "add" such great blessing to us by your own goodness and power without our great and sometimes painful wrestlings!

Paul said...    12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places . [Ephesians 6:12.]

A close examination of this wonderful instruction of the spiritual warefare every believer is engaged in reveals that along with the armour  is the call of "Praying with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit" [Ephesians 6:18.] This is the real wrestle that counts and brings us into heavenly dealings with The Lord that carries us forward in his power as illustrated in the "wrestle" that Jacob had when he wrestled for The Blessing!

24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. [Genesis 32:24-28.]

The first mention of "supplication in The Spirit" (in Ephesians 6:18.) is concerning engaging The Lord for the personal blessing of spiritual resurrection and fullness in which we can alone advance in victory and the purpose of God as Jacob did. Putting on the "armour" is crucial but without the Power of Christ's Life the shield of faith can be dropped to the ground, or the helmet fall off!

The second mention of the word "supplication" is self explanatory, it is Prayer and partition for all saints - "and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints".

The root meaning of the word Supplication is to "beg (as binding oneself)" [Strong's Bible dictionery] The Lord help us greatly to "bind" ourselves to our wonderful saviour pleading in real Spirit supplication for us to become by the grace of God a "prisioner of Jesus Christ" and be mirrors of His grace and glory! The wrestle that counts is the prayer wrestle for Heavens plans and blessing. Our self interest wrestlings are a complete waste!

Jesus Loves You.

God Bless.
