      Joshua Ch. 11.

It Came to Pass. Vs. 1.

Joshua 21:45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

There are many things that "come to pass" that we feel would be better if they  didn't but The Lord in his great wisdom contains all within his care for our good. Here with Israel it was opposition - "come to pass" and yet there is nothing, no, not anything that gets past the Lord. Blessing is what the Lord has to "Pass" [Gen.25:11.]

Staggering Opposition! Vs. 4.

The enemy as "the sand upon the seashore" and "chariots very many"; Their combined forces, according to JOSEPHUS, amounted to three hundred thousand infantry, ten thousand cavalry, and twenty thousand war chariots. [J.F.B. Commentary] The End of Israel coming up? NOT SO! The Lords word was,   "I will deliver them up ALL slain before Israel" "There are many adversaries" [1 Cor. 16:9.] "If God be for us who can be against us?" [Romans 8:31.] Don't be weary of the contradiction of self. Surrender!  - The Lord knows all about it! [Hebrews 12:3.]

Be Not Afraid! Vs. 6.

Is the Lord's love for you perfect? Of course it is, Jesus gave   ALL for you. Galatians 2:20. "He loved me and gave himself for me". In 1 John 4:18 we are told that spiritual maturity is developed within the comprehension of God's love and thats why Paul says in Ephesians that to know the love of Christ is to be "filled with ALL the fullness of God" Love cannot fail in the performance of the greatest good; even willing to die for the object of such love. Paul says at the end of the famous chapter on love .... "follow after Love" [1 Corinthians 14:1.] Follow His Love - there is no fear there!

"Doer of the Word" Vs. 15.

Remember the Lord's Word to Joshua, to observe His Word "to do according"   [1:8.] and then Joshua would make his "way prosperous" and then he would have "good success". When we co-operate with the Word of God we are accommodating the greatest power on Earth and there shall be "Good Success" with the identical success that was demonstrated in Creation - When the Lord spoke and it came into being, he saw that it was GOOD. Keep the Word of God to your heart as the greatest success of good and don't allow the mind to argue any "jot or tittle".

"Took all the land" Vs. 16.

Paul said to the Elders of Ephesus Acts 20:27 (KJV) For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.  Be all out for Jesus for He is "ALL". [Colossians 3:11.] The lord gave the word to Israel  Obadiah 1:17. "...and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions."  Joshua took all the land and Paul said to the Corinthian Church that "All things are yours" [1 Corinthians 3:21.]  The Lord said concerning David - "...a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.[Acts 13:22.] ALL His will is ALL FANTASTIC!

Long War. Vs 18.

The Children of Israel faced a "long War" and so does the Christian. The Lord declared that he would             "have war with Amalek from generation to generation". [Exodus 17:16.] Amalek is a direct descendent of Esau which is a type of the "disregarding flesh" in the Christian: Israel prevailed with Joshua against Amalek as Moses Aaron and Hur interceded in Prayer. Jesus said,  [Matthew 26:41.] Watch and pray, ... the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Our stance against our flesh and the desire to walk and serve in the Spirit by His power should be one of WAR!

"For it was of the Lord" Vs. 20.

Notice that a great Victory and determination of the Lord was unstoppable because it was as  "The lord commanded Moses"; our whole desire should be for the Word of God to be fulfilled in us;         "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord" [Ps. 37:23.] When such is with us we have a rejoicing assurance that all is "of the Lord" and we can trust all outcomes to Him. When we are entrenched in our own desires and plans we lack peace and are apprehensive about many things ahead NOT being "of the Lord". Acknowledge Him as Lord - Commit all to Him.

No Giant to Big. Vs 22.

There is only ever anything too big for us if it is too big for the Lord! Paul said,  Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. It was the GIANTS that originally turned Israel away for 40 Years "wandering in the wilderness"  Psalms 107:4 (KJV) They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. Have Faith, Believe his Promise, that we may not also wander for years suffering great spiritual loss; missing out on The Lord's best that he has for us. Face the Giants by Faith! "Possess your Possessions."

Do the Bidding of the Lord. Vs. 9.

How difficult you would think, to do what Joshua did; what a waste! Yet Joshua simply did what "The Lord bade him". Paul encourages us to consider that we are   "not our own we are bought with a price" [1 Corinthians 6:20.] If The Lord bid us, then there shall be glorious wisdom for us ahead! Saul later had the same test and failed, keeping "the best" of what God told him to dispense with, and we can recall what sore battle defeats followed!

The Measured Fire Vs. 13.

Joshua Burned "Hazor only". There still remains with every believer some needed measure of fire; John the Baptist declared that Jesus is the one that will baptize   "with the Holy Ghost and with fire" [Matthew 3:11.]  Fire purifies, and in all that is needed in that, the promise of the Lord is ....    "neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." [Isaiah 43:2] This fiery work of the Lord is "unquenchable" and is for our good. Peter said the "fire" trying of our faith is  more precious than Gold, that our faith might be a revelation of praise and glory to the Lord.

His Rest is Glorious. Vs. 23.

There remaineth a rest for the people of God [Hebrews 4;9.] The Bible says, The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. [Psalm 111:2.]   Isaiah 11:10. ....to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. Rest in Him and and be blessed according to Psalm 84:11. In His rest we cease from our own works which are wood hay and stubble, destined to be burned up. [Ref. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.] He will "give Grace and Glory".

The Lord Bless and the Word be mixed with faith as we resume study of the book of Joshua.
