        Joshua Ch. 15-17.

        Theme: Inheritance by Lot.

"This then was the lot" 15:1.

¶ The Inheritance of the children of Israel fell to them by "lot". It was not just a matter of - "well the land is before you just help yourselves". From slave bondage to a vast inheritance because they now have been redeemed, adopted and have become the people of the Lord, as He said "Let my people go". Because of this belonging there is a consequence of inheritance and so with the Christian who has become a child of God through birth enters into an inheritance exceeding Great. This inheritance is by "Lot" and the minimum (which can be increased) is eternally awaiting every believer in Christ.

"Even to the Border". 15:1.

¶ The phrase here means "great extents" We can go after the GREAT extents of inheritance that the Lord has for us. The Lord has more for us, more than we can "ask or think" [Eph 3:20.]

"Which City is Hebron" 15:13.

¶ Hebron means "association" and has great associations in God's dealings Ref. Study 13 & 14. P15. The Lord warns the dangers of wrong associations.  Ref. Isaiah 8:9. "Associate yourselves...... and Ye shall be broken".

Caleb Defeated the Giants. 15:14.

¶ The approach of David against Golieth was full of steam not because he stood in the way of Israel but because of the reproach against the name of the Lord. How much fire there should be in our hearts against everything in us that is an insult against the glory of His Name.

Delighted for more. 15:18.

¶ Paul said, "Covet earnestly the best gifts" [1Cor. 12:31.]  Achsah wanted more, as did Jabez pray  "O that thou wouldst bless me indeed and enlarge my coast" 1 Chronicles 4:10.

The Uttermost Cities 15:21.

¶ This phrase suggests distance and vastness as in Hebrews 7:25. Go for the uttermost of all Jesus has for you even if you feel that it is all very ordinary as in the case of the marriage in Cana of Galilee. [John 4.] The ordinary became spectacular! Water to Best Wine.

"Gaza " Means Strong. 15:47.

¶ It was at Gaza that Samson showed opposing strength though in poor circumstances and from which point his carelessness continued to tragedy. Judges 16:1-5

"At Jerusalem". 15:63.

¶ Jerusalem as appears here before David was a troubled City and is also in the same stress today. How sad that the place where the Lord has deemed to place his name is a place of stress and contention. We are encouraged to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, why? - Because God's dwelling place is to be "The house of the Lord" 1 Chron. 28:13. "House of Rest" 1 Chron. 28:2. "House of Sacrifice" 2 Chron. 7:12. House of Joy. Ezra 6:16. Ps. 42:4.  House of peace Haggai 2:9.

**Joshua Ch. 16.**

"They drave not out" 16:10.

¶ "What fellowship has light with darkness" "Can two walk together, except they be agreed" Amos 3:3.

It is simply acknowledging the Lord in all our ways that we have the joy and blessing of His agreement. "Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He shall direct your paths "  Prov. 3-10.  Result: Life and Health. Barns flowing over! Jesus equates to LIFE. More of Jesus - ABUNDANT LIFE!

**Joshua Ch 17.**

"Man of War" 17:1.

¶ War meant a "therefore" of blessing! War and fight or lie down and play dead and let the hogs breath of the self life  consume our days with vanity and emptiness. Praise the Lord for the example of Machir who warred and gained!
"The Lord is a MAN OF WAR"              [Exodus 15:3.]

Women of Purpose 17:4.

¶ They "drew near" to Joshua seeking a full inheritance. These women knew they were in the race and so ran and sought. This race cannot be run without prayer because the course is set by the Prize holder! We need to "draw near" as these women did. Joshua had the prize distribution.

Fringe Benefits? 17:13.

¶ Are there fringe benefits to "pricks in your eyes and thorns in your side" ref. Numbers 33:55. Because all that is attached to self is vanity and there is vexation of spirit.  Eccl 2:17.

Greatness because Blessed. 17:14.

¶ How can the blessing of the Lord be anything else But GREAT! Job  stuck with the option  "unto God would I commit my cause which doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number" Job 5:8-9. Blessing is what the Lord does and has for us.

Blessed but wanted more. 17:15.

¶ More is always available but it doesn't come to those who are asleep. Joshua told them there was more land but it had to be cleared not only of timber but the Giants Too!

"Thou hast Great Power" 17:17.

¶ Do you know that you have great power? When we have Christ in us then we have great power because Christ is the Wisdom of God and the Power of God. Ref. 1 Corinthians 1:24. That is why Paul was able to boldly say "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" Philippians 4:13. Here at this point emerges the raw reality that just as the family of Joseph could only take the mountainous land before them by Great power, so also we can only move more into God's high calling in Christ by Resurrection Power!

Mountain - Thine - "It is Wood" 17:18.

¶ Joshua saw that the great encouragement for Joseph's family in this formidable Mountain was that it "Is Wood". As we take on our Mountains in the Name of The Lord we will find "wood" that becomes building material of what the Lord is seeking to accomplish in us for His Glory and "the outgoings" of it all will be Praise!

Jesus is Reaching for You

God Bless.
