            Joshua Ch. 22.

Kept and Obeyed. 22:2.

¶ The order here is "kept" and "obeyed". Obedience that is the result of "precious regard" is not a cold calculated "must or else" but is what Paul said to the Church at Rome ... "you have obeyed from the heart" [Romans 6:17.] Where obedience is the "object" death is the result. Where heart registered preciousness of Christ and the Word is the "object" Life and joyful obedience is the result. Where a believer is lacking in "obedience" the need is not confrontation to coerce obedience but a need of revelation of the preciousness of Christ and The Word and will of God and it is then that the action that is "worked out" will be "In The Spirit" and not "in the flesh". Paul said "Are ye so foolish having begun in the Spirit are ye now made perfect by the Flesh" [Galatians 3:3.] "Spiritual" activity "in the flesh" is uninspired self effort resulting in self righteousness and vain claims of spiritual achivement and maturity.

Somebody is digging! Psalm 40:6-7

¶ Have you experienced someone digging in your ear? Not your waxed ear but your "knowing" ear! Samuel said ... "To obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams" [1 Sam. 15:22.] The word "hearken" means "to prick up the ears" - Could you Imagine when Jesus drew near to the two on the Emmaus road (who didn't recognize him) how their ears would have "pricked up" as he expounded glorious things! David said, the volume that was given his "diged " ear caused great delight in the will of God. [Psalm 40:6-8.]

 Brethren 22:3.

¶ There is no doubt that the nine and a half tribes needed the other two and a half in the conquest of Canaan and we all need each other as members "one of another" in the body of Christ. How much importance did the Lord impress such upon Peter when he asked him - "Do you love me"? And then said ... "Feed my sheep". [John 21:16.] "There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother" [Prov.18:24.] Jesus sticks to us like glue and we have His "stickiness" in our heart and spirit by the Spirit of God. We need to keep this "stickiness" in fellowship and in Prayer for one another.

Rest under Lordship 22:4.

¶ The phrase "The Lord your God" (Vs. 4.) is important as Peter also said "Sanctify the Lord - God in your hearts" [1 Peter 3:15.] It is the "coming" to Jesus that rest is found not just a mental "ascent" that he is there. We know that Jesus is there along with a whole host of other things in our hearts and that's why Peter says "sanctify" and set apart Jesus from everything, placing Him as supreme, over every inclination of our hearts for Rest and Grace-Power!

 Take Heed 22:5.

¶ As mentioned in previous notes - beware of the hogs breath of the self life! There is a frightening stinking odour of the self life pervading the atmosphere of much preaching today particularly within the operations of Tele Evangelism where there is so much begging for money with the spin that "sow your seed" (money) and it will grow into a harvest! Paul warned that those who suppose that gain is godliness from such withdraw.  [1 Timothy 6:5.] All that God has given is FREE. Watch out that gain is not sought in Ministry or in any other undercover form of "begging" for love of money.

Love is an Action Word. 22:5.

¶ Notice that Joshua exhorts "to do" and then begins to give the "charge" that Moses gave with - "to Love the Lord". Jesus said, on this commandment of Love hangs all the law and the prophets. [Matthew 22:40.] Can you "do" love? Of course a person can do love "actions" but be empty of love and such can be classified as a "sham". Paul makes the case clear with the words "If I have not love it profits me nothing" [1 Cor. 13:3.] Moses found this "Love Action" through a REVELATION and his face shone with glory! [Exodus 34:29.] Knowing Jesus causes a love and "doing" that shines!

Cleave unto The Lord. 22:5.

¶ When Barnabas saw the Grace of God at Antioch he encouraged the saints that with purpose of heart they should cleave unto the Lord [Acts 11:23.] The saints took the advice and World impacting blessing followed because out from Antioch was initiated the global reach of the Gospel! Have you experienced the grace of God? Then there is a mountain of fantastic reasons to Cleave unto the Lord. Jacob Cleaved unto the Lord till it became a "wrestle" and the Lord let go an avalanche of blessing upon him, lifting him up to the high status of "A Prince with God" who at the end of his life pronounced the mighty blessing of God upon Pharaoh of Egypt and consequently upon Joseph and all of Israel!

Joshua Blessed. 22:6-7.

¶ As Joshua blessed Israel so Jesus is our eternal blessing Praise the Lord! You are in the Blessing "Zone" in Christ who is "over all God Blessed forever" [Romans 9:5.]

Proverbs 10:22 (KJV)
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

According to the truth in Romans 9:5 one could only say that the Christian is in the Living Centre of Blessing and as Paul said in Romans 11:22 "... toward thee goodness, if thou continue in his goodness".

"Much Riches" 22:8.

¶ What a great word was this of Joshua's - "Return and divide the spoil with your brethren". Jesus "divides the spoil with the strong" [Isaiah 53:12.] to divide His great bounty with others. Paul spoke about "spending" and being "spent" for the brethren. [2 Cor. 12:15.] It is a surpassing joy to be the source of enrichment and spiritual blessing to others.

Mistaken Judgement. 22:9-30.

¶"Judge nothing before the time for then shall every.... man receive praise of God" [1 Corinthians 4:5.] The 9.5 tribes almost made a fatal mistake! The majority was wrong! Judgement happens but Paul says to "not judge one another anymore" and watch out to not put a stumbling block or an occasion to cause a brother or sister to fall. [Romans 14:13.] There are brethren everywhere today that need to be "lifted up". A bruised reed will Jesus not break and we need to be fearful of being in direct opposition to the Lord! [Matthew 12:20.]

The Danger of Going Solo! 22:29.

¶ "God forbid" was the word in fellowship. The two and a half tribes were not going to go solo in worship and offering to the Lord but remain in fellowship at the tabernacle of Worship. What glory results as we become one in His love!

Blessing in Oneness! 22:33.

¶ Abigail had it right - "Bound in the bundle of Life with the Lord our God". What a woman of spiritual perception! No wonder David wanted to marry her. David also expresses the same in Psalm 133 - "How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity... For there the Lord commands the blessing, even life forevermore". There is the establishment of Eternal blessing within the function of spiritual oneness among God's people, but where there is strife and division there is every evil work.

Witness - "The Lord is God." 22:34.

¶ The pillar was a witness in fellowship that The Lord is God. What a privilege in fellowship together to bear witness that The Lord is God and that our hearts are lifted up together unto Him. John declares the same: To "bear witness and shew.. that Eternal Life" [1 John 1:2.] How powerful it should be to be able to, in our witness to each other, to "shew" forth "that Eternal Life" which IS The Lord Jesus Christ! The Lord do it by His Spirit!

Jesus Loves You. God Bless.
