Pastors and the Church Part 2:

Excerpt 1.

Troubling comments that reveal pastor power.

·         2. -- The term "pastor" is used as a title denoting a professional position . ..... "Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man. For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away. [Job 32:21-22.] "Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours" [1 Cor. 3:21.]

¶ There is no place for the elevation of man and the admiration of his attainments in the body of Christ. John the Baptist had it right ... "He must increase but I must decrease" [John' 3:30 .] Jesus said even to the apostles ... "All ye are brethren" Nothing more and nothing less and yet there is no greater preciousness or closeness than to be a brother even as Peter referred to Paul, not as "apostle" Paul but as "our beloved brother Paul" [2 Peter' 3:15 .] Note the preciousness in the phrase "our beloved brother". How can we miss the mind of Christ in these matters? How come we can't see that his glory is not manifest through our grandeur! If man is lifted up, who or what can lift Christ up? Are we trying to appear to the World that we can match the World's wisdom and pride? And we present to the World that our title bests them because we have graduated to the achieved title of "reverend" or "most reverend" when the Word of God clearly declares that ... "Holy and Reverend is his name" [Psalm' 111:9 .] Can we ascribe his worthy reverence to ourselves in an open entitlement? The Lord dissolve us to our true position as he did Isaiah that ALL our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. O how Isaiah was changed when he saw the glory of the Lord! How graphic is his encounter as he cried ... "Woe is me" ! [Isaiah' 6:5 .] How quickly we would throw our white collars and our purple robes on the ground and be on our faces if we truly grasped our utter unworthiness. "And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day ." [Isaiah' 2:17 .]
