*** So who really is the "Dance Boss"? ***

So you think you are the dance boss?

Fair enough, you are good at twirling your body around; but how substantial is such glory? For how long will you be the 'dance boss'?

A whole generation of young people come along and there goes the prized position! Someone has shined brighter at the body moves, and anyway, it has all been done before and "there is nothing new under the sun". [Ecclesiastes 1:9.]

Your body in a short 20 years will be behind the trend, be lagging behind, will be upstaged!

So where is the lasting satisfaction in being the 'dance boss' for a fleeting moment of time?

All 'body' glory is a vanity fair on show, whether it be dance boss, cricket boss, soccer boss or standing on your hands boss!

If, as a man in Bible times said .... "the worms get the body", [Job 19:25-27.] then, what nil account is all the focus of the human race upon the body and all it's physical realms!

*** Who in Human History is the ORIGINAL DANCE BOSS? ***

Miriam is the woman who set a nation on fire with her dance routine!

"For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea."
[Exodus 15:19-21.]

What a dance that was!

Something like one million women caught the passion not for 'body show' but to demonstrate the thrill, of the Glory, and Greatness of the Lord and his Salvation from certain destruction!

The grave makes it's inescapable claim on the fleeting glory of ALL 'body moves' and ALL it's pleasures.

*** Miriam is the 'Dance Boss' of Lasting Glory ***

Why? .... Because she was dancing in the triumph of the Lord's grace and deliverance from all fear!

You may be young and have great ability and great looks in the physical halls of fame and popularity, but do you fear old age and the inevitable end to all mere physical prowess?

Do you have a dance in your heart that all is well for Eternity? That was Miriam's heartfelt joy and vision that spontaneously attracted one million other women to join her in the dance routine of Praise and Glory!

You too can have this dance in your heart, that all is eternally well because you have put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who also has "triumphed gloriously" over the grave, having died for your sins against Heaven, and has risen again from the dead with great power and glory, to be your saviour with the gift of Eternal Life!

What great news! You may qualify as a 'dance boss' but it is not a dance with your body that makes anyone a boss of anything because ultimately the 'body' is under the sentence of death and the real physical 'boss' is the grave!

*** The Dance that broke the Ten commandments! ***

Alas! Israel became bored, while waiting on directions from Heaven's high ground, concerning their forward travel to the land of God's choice, a "land flowing with milk and honey". [Exodus 3:8.]

They thought to revel, and live their own life of vanity assumptions, and to celebrate their new found enthusiasm with a dance.

They danced naked in a mindless frenzy of sexuality and worship, around their wealth of gifted treasure from Egypt, which they fashioned into a golden calf! [Exodus 32:24.]

This dance of carnal lust and forsaking godliness, reaped God's judgment, leaving Moses devastated, and the 'ten commandments' of God's law for their promised blessing, lying shattered upon the ground, before a shamed and guilty people.

We are all guilty of breaking the law, (the ten commandments) of God's holiness, and so "let every mouth be stopped and all the world become guilty before God". [Romans 3:19.]

The human body is a penthouse of self centered lasciviousness and lusts - For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. [1 John 2:16.]

It is only when a sinner is "born again" [John 3:1-5.] is there a counter power, and desire to "escape the corruption that is in the world through lust". [2 Peter 1:4.]

Just as alcoholism, and drug addiction, are body passions gone mad, so is the potential of 'dance' to be lewd, and promote lustful imaginations that escalate out of control towards the destruction of temptation and sin.

Such occured with Israel and their raunchy dance of sinful pleasure.

Join Miriam in the real dance of heart and fullness of joy, in knowing Christ. Jesus alone has triumphed over the the 'grave' destruction of our bodies, procuring for all who believe upon him, the gift of Eternal Life, and the resurrection of the body, to glory, beauty and powerful honour!

Miriam's song. "I will sing unto the Lord."

"All around the world" (Lifetree kids.)

 God Bless.

Grant Hayman.

Gospel - The World

The following brief outline of the "Glorious Gospel of Christ" covers the exciting and only answer to all religious huff puff that furnishes nothing of the frightening and yet FANTASTIC one reality that is found in no other religion but the Gospel (Thrilling surpassing good news) of Christ!

This ONE REALITY IS - Where to find one pure enough to stand in for the human race, on its side to assuage it's blame of deplorable culpable sin against Heaven by bearing the JUST JUDGMENT prescribed by God which is ..... DEATH?

Doesn't this world in the expanse of great nations still exist because of JUSTICE served out upon the mad extents of man's horrendous behaviour not only against Heaven but also against his neighbour? Why, would any of us be alive today if JUSTICE disappeared from the human race?

God's righteousness demands JUSTICE! And Jesus Christ the man from Heaven with the power and love of God for a world of sin and sinners has taken the massive blow and not only died for our sins but gloriously conquered man's GRAVE and RISEN again to give an answer to his faith of RESURRECTION and ETERNAL LIFE!

                           >>>  <<<

Obviously the human race is stumped at the grave!

Whether it is physical death, Sickness, War, Violence, Bitterness and every other minor nasty of man's nature; all is because of sin and the only viable end to it all, as prescribed by God is death! And there you are in this massive maze of eons of human death, and stumped without power to redeem your life!

But wait! .....

There is someone who has come with the mighty power of Heaven, and love for you and me, and dealt a blow to man's devilish blight of death, and reigns as,      "The Prince of Life"! [Acts 3:15.] to save and give eternal life to all those who believe on Him (Jesus) as their Saviour and Lord.

No Joke! Is it not a fantastic thing to have Eternal Life in your possession? Why, to exist forever is a certainty for everyone.

When our body gives way to God's sentence of death because of the encasement of sin, the real person vacates the body, possessed by death or in possession of Eternal Life!

"Christ died for our sins", [1 Corinthians 15:3.] which affords sinners forgiveness: And rose again triumphant over the grave with the power "of endless Life" which is the Gift and receiving of Eternal Life for all who believe on Him.      "The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord" [Romans 6:23.]

So, you're skeptical about existence beyond the grave? You don't think that part of you is spirit and soul? What is personality, intuition, feelings, awareness?

The occult and the use of 'spiritual mediums' by law enforcement, with pin point accuracy, is a proven reality!

The Bible calls our body a 'tabernacle', which means a temporary dwelling place, where we abide till our mortality ends; being swallowed up by death.. But with Christ the Bible says, at death our mortality is swallowed up of LIFE instead of Death, because Christ is risen from the grave and is "alive forever more and has the keys of hell and of death"!          [Revelation 1:18.]

There is no other answer to man's death dilemma! Peter said to Jesus on one occasion when a challenge presented itself - "Lord to whom shall we go, you have the Words of Eternal Life" [John 6:68.] There is no other answer but the Gospel of Christ to the glaring need of justice to be served upon man's culpable sinfulness in the sight of Heaven and yet at the same time, gloriously provide mercy, and a complete deliverance from the guilty sentence of death!

There's no other place, but in the stead of Christ for any person to stand, in order to be made free, saved and forgiven!

As an old hymn of truth says ...

"There was no other good enough To pay the price of sin. He only could unlock the gate of Heaven and let us in."

How wonderful is this truth expressed in the following Bible verse - "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God." [1 Peter 3:18]

Jesus has died for your sins, is risen again and ascended to the "majesty on High" as "The Just One" for you! He is there, as your powerful Just advocate. Your forgiveness, and Eternal Life, cannot be refused as you believe on Him. You are "brought to God", Justified by "The Just One", Saved and Forgiven!!

How fantastic!

We are brought to God by the Son of God who suffered our judgement and humiliation; took our death, "despised the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God" [Hebrews 12:2.] And there at the Throne of God, Jesus intercedes for You and me to know the great love of God's goodness and blessing more and more, and to experience all the benefits freely given us in Christ.

Some wonderful benefits in the above Psalm are - * He Forgives us: * Removes our sins as far as the east is from the west! * Redeems our life from destruction! * He knows our frame and remembers we are but dust. * Crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies!

What a wonder is the Love of God for You! And "How shall we escape if we neglect So Great Salvation"! [Hebrews 2:3.]

Man's greatest sin in the face of God, is to reject his Son, so freely given to "bare our sins" and save us from the judgement we all deserve.

Dear friend, at this point having read thus far the great glad tidings of the Gospel of Christ, are you ready to have Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord?

The Promise is - "He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life." [1 John 5:12.] "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" [John 1:12.]

Ask Jesus to come into your life Today!

If you've asked Jesus to come into your life, then according to God's Word, you have passed from Death unto Life and shall not come into condemnation and judgement no matter What sin you have been guilty of!

Jesus said ... "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." [John 5:24.]

If you haven't asked Jesus to come into your life, you can do so now with a simple prayer like ... "Lord Jesus, thank you for taking my judgement of death on the cross, and rising again from death with the gift of Eternal Life for me. Come into my life now, my Saviour, Friend and Lord."

The Bible says of the Christian - "Christ in you the hope of GLORY". Why? * Because the one who is your Redeemer is the "King of Kings and Lord of lords" [1 Timothy 6:15.]

* Jesus is the creator of Heaven and Earth: All thrones, dominions, powers and The coming Kingdom over ALL, is His!

* "He is before all things and by Him ALL things Consist"! * Jesus is "the head of the Church, to have the Preeminence in ALL things"

* And "In Him dwells ALL the fullness of the Godhead". All this Greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ is found in Colossians 1:13-20.

The Bible says - "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised and His Greatness is Unsearchable". [Psalm 145:3.] REJOICE!!

This "Eternal Life" is Christ's Life in us, and we have been made a part of that. Christ is in the believer by His Spirit which is "The Holy Spirit" and by His Spirit we are "Born Again" making us children of God.

If we didn't have Christ in us by His Spirit we would be "dead in trespasses and sins" [Ephesians 2:1.] heading for the "Lake of Fire which is the second Death"! [Revelation 21:8.]

How Great is the sinners deliverance in Christ! The Bible says - "When Christ, who is our Life shall appear, then shall you also appear with Him in Glory!" [Colossians 3:4.] This "new Life" ahead for every believer is potentially Glorious. "Press toward the mark for the Prize of the High calling of God in Christ Jesus"! [Philippians 3:14.]

Job said from the outset of his great trial .... "Though the Lord slay me, yet will I trust him"! [Job 13:15.] And he did trust, and won the Prize! God's richest blessing!

No matter what trials, difficulties, or dealings of the Lord, that you may face, remember the promise ... "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ". [Romans 8:35]

The Lord Jesus will NEVER leave you or forsake you! [Hebrews 13:5-6.] Even if, at times "....we believe not he abideth faithful he cannot deny himself." [2 Timothy 2:13.]

Press on for the Prize of the Lord's rich blessing! The Prodigal son went from rags to the "best robe". [Luke 15:11-32.]

The Lord has the Best for You!

Gospel - The World

           >> The following is a cliff hanger story. <<

A story of the wonderful Grace of God that knows no bounds to touch a life that needs him with love and abundant pardon through faith in Christ.

The Lord bless your heart with his great love and goodness as you read this real life story.

The narritive is presented just as written by Graeme with the addition of a few headings.

Graeme’s Testimony – Sydney Australia.

            >> Born Somewhere and left on a Hospital Doorstep. <<

I was born somewhere in Sydney and was left on the doorstep of the old Paddington’s Women’s Hospital.

I stayed there and the nurses named me Graeme and that was how I got the name Graeme.

I stayed there for two years and I suppose was waiting for my parents to come back to get me. This never happened and still to this day I have never met my mum or my dad or do I know if I have any sisters or brothers. This is because no records of birth is there.

I do not have any memory of the first couple of years, only that it was a dark place and cold.

At the age of two I was given to a family and was returned six months later. All this information was provided to me later on in my life when I searched my childhood to see where I came from and tried to find my parents or if I had any brothers or sisters.

This is where my memory clears up and I remember being in a long room with a heap of other kids and long rows of beds that we slept in at night. I remember it was fight for what you want and there I stayed till the age of 4 years. There was lot of violence in the home and the belt was used to punish you and you were locked in a dark cold room and left there till you were let out.

                                        >> Beaten and Mistreated. <<

At the age of four I was given to a second family and this was a not a good place and I was beaten and mistreated. This is where I was introduced to the Salvation Army and they removed me from the home on one afternoon and I was black and blue from the abuse and they took me back to the orphanage and I was 5 years old. Just a kid and did not know any love. I was scared and did not want to go back to the orphanage and wanted to stay with this Salvo lady as I felt safe and I knew I would be safe.

This was not to be and back I went to that place for another 6 months till one day when I was introduced to these two people at the orphanage and I was told I would be going home with them.

This is where I stayed and was given the last name Cropper and was put into school and was fed and clothed and looked after till I left at the age of 16.

All I knew how to do was play football and fight to stick up for myself as this was instilled in me from a early age.

Those people were not bad people but I did not trust anybody nor did I know how to love or give love. I was beaten in that home by the man and so was the mother but to me this was normal. I would go to school black and blue and would tell the teachers nothing because I would cop it more if I said anything. At high school I was only good at one thing and that was footy. I was forever getting expelled for fighting and I had no respect for authority.

At the age of 16 I was hoping things would get better but that was not to be. I was on the streets and with no real family or no way to deal with the pain in me I was a very angry boy.

It wasn’t long before I started to use drugs to mask the pain and to feel good and to fill the void in my life. So I was an addict at the age of 17 and that was my way of life for the next 25 years.

                               >> Lost and Wreckless - A Balaclava and a Gun. <<

For the next 25 years I was a heroin addict and all that went with that. I was in and out of gaol and rehabilitation centres. My life was out of control and I could not stop. Many times I tried to stop and to live normally but drugs and violence and gaol was all I knew and how I survived. In total I was sent to gaol seven times and a total of 11 years spent behind bars. I was a very violent person who would stop at nothing to get what I wanted or to get what you had. It was nothing for me to put on a balaclava and run in with a gun and take what I wanted. The people I was associated with were bad people and guns were our choice of defence and attack. I was mixed up in drug dealing and armed robberies and a lot of violence. In 2004 I found myself back in gaol charged with assault once again and I had broken my parole. I have four children and my eldest daughter, I had promised her that I would not be going back to gaol, and my daughter was letting me be part of my granddaughter’s life only if I stayed out of gaol. This was the final straw and here I was back in gaol. So that was it. I had enough and I had not only hurt my own children by not being around for them but I was now hurting my granddaughter. I had enough of this life and I wanted out. I was a mess and I didn’t know how to change. I was sick of gaol and drugs and this life.

                              >> The Light Shone in the Darkness. <<

I had two choices. One was to end my life or hand it all over to the Lord and that is what I done. For the first time I put my trust into the Lord and got down on my knees in that gaol cell and prayed and said if you are really up there help me. I was in that cell for a couple of days, and unknown to me was a small blue book, which turned out to be a Gideon’s bible. When I finished praying that day in my cell, that very same Gideon’s bible was the first thing I saw. I then sat down on my bed and knew instantly that I had been given a sign from the Father. Tears were streaming down my face, and I opened up the bible and the first page I came to was which is ‘In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was God’. Then, my attention was drawn to verse 5, ‘And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended not’.

That was the start of my jouney and I haven’t looked back. In gaol I started to go to church and to read that Gideon’s Bible from my cell. My favourite Psalm is 23 and boy do I know it off by heart. I really like reading the Psalms because they brighten up my day. I walked out of gaol in late 2004 and have not used drugs since, praise the Lord. I still have that Bible and all I walked out of gaol with was the clothes on my back and that blue Bible.

                       >> A Long Hard Road but Blessed and Sharing It! <<

It’s been a long road and a hard road the last eight years to try to change. There have been many hard times to learn how to survive in this world and to live normal in life. The real world and how it works. I locked myself away for the first two years and only went out to do normal things like pay bills and shop and to go to church on a Sunday. I would not let anybody in. I slowly started to  venture out as I was not scared anymore. It’s funny how I have had guns put to my head and been shot and been in gaol and done things and I was not scared but to be in the real world was so scary for me. During the early years the Lord had touched my heart and I decided to get involved with prison ministries as I wanted to help and to give back. I started to go into the gaols to visit inmates and to share my story as the Lord had touched my heart and I knew this was what I was needed to do.

I then was employed to run the mentoring program for ex-prisoners. I loved it and this was what I was passionate about and helping them settle back into the community and working with their addictions.

                            >> Standing through the Lord's Love. <<

Through the Lord’s love for me and the power of prayer and the support of the church is why I stand here today drug free. I have completed a three year course on drug and alcohol counselling and now am employed by the Hope Centre as a Drug and Alcohol counsellor for the Salvation Army. I have also started my diploma of drug and alcohol mental health that I am half way through at present and will be finished next year. I also now have a great relationship with all my children and my granddaughter that loves her poppy. For a long time now my children are proud of their father and praise the Lord. None of the changes in my life were possible without the Lord’s love and grace and the power of prayer.

I do have a family and it’s the church family and I do know my father and he is the King.

The Man who Blessed Cootamundra! | Print |  E-mail
Gospel - The World
Written by Bert Crooks/Allen Crooks

The man that blessed the Town of Cootamundra:

Recollections of my Dad - Bert Crooks:

By: Allen Crooks.

Date: 20-10-2013.

I remember looking into his bedroom one day and seeing him on his knees praying beside his bed.

It was a peek moment. Not a display.  I knew then he was a man of prayer, not just at our tea time devotions

I remember him on a fruit box outside the Globe hotel on Sunday nights preaching the gospel then taking into our family for some years two boys of a jailed alcoholic.

And I remember him giving gardening work to alcoholics.

On Sunday afternoons he would conduct open air Sunday School in a little park in Warren Sub (across the road from the little corner store) and also in a little building he erected up in Hurley Lane  (the building was made from timber poles and scrap corrugated iron he rescued from the fire of Cohen's store.

He used to build houses on spec to sell; it took him a year to build each one... When he was working on one he made a verbal agreement with an insurance agent to sign up for accident insurance and he was to sign the papers the next week, but before the agent returned Dad fell off the roof badly breaking his leg resulting in months of living in a tent in Blacktown in Sydney with no income whatsoever while attending hospital for treatment. He was told he would never walk again, the insurance agent wanted Dad to predate his signature on the papers but on principle Dad would not predate his signature. .  The agent told him he was fool.

When he was awarded Citizen of the Year award a few years ago he took the opportunity to preach the gospel in his acceptance reply.

He was a main worker in the 'Put Christ Back into Christmas" campaign and also wrote letters to the paper when he felt it necessary.

Isaiah 6:1-8 (KJV)
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

The Personal Testimony of Bert Crooks:

By: The late Bert Crooks.

My life before I came to know Christ:

1. Brought up in a Christian home.

2. Went willingly to church, Sunday school, Christian Endeavour.

3. Fitted easily into the Christian life-style of my upbringing.

4. As a child, quiet, shy, fairly co-operative and easy to get along with.  A follower rather than a leader among peers.

5. Embarrassed about the fact that my father was a minister, (lay preacher) and didn't want to be thought different to others.

6. Did the usual naughty things that young boys do.

Lied to and deceived parents.

Got up to silly pranks with other kids.

Had fits of bad temper.

Was angry with parents when activities were restricted.

7. Became increasingly interested in the meaning of life as I reached my teen years and started to think about adult thoughts. Began to question the foundational beliefs I had been taught.

e.g. Is there really a God?

Is there life beyond this life?

Have I been brainwashed or is the Christian teaching I received through my home and church the truth?

How I came to see my need of Christ:

1. As I sought answers to the deeper questions of life and the truthfulness or otherwise of the Christian message it became increasingly clear to me that the Christian message was true and reasonable.

2. The little booklet "The Reason Why" was very helpful at that time (I was about 14 years of age at the time)

3. As I look back I can see that God was speaking to me and drawing me to Himself.

4. No doubt the prayers of my parents were a factor influencing my thinking at that time.

5. Because of my background I knew enough about the teaching of the Bible to know that if I  was to have "eternal life" I had to be "born again".

6. I began to sincerely and earnestly seek this experience of being "born again" (converted) because I knew that my parents' faith, my church going, and my reasonably good living, didn't make me a child of God.

7. I recall that over a period of about a year I used to kneel beside my bed at night, often for up to an hour, praying for salvation.

8. Although I knew so much in my head about "how to be saved" I lacked assurance that I was "saved".

How I received Christ:

1. I cannot say when I moved from the point when I was seeking Christ into the state when I knew that I had received Christ as my personal Saviour and Lord and was trusting Him. I.e. that I had been "born again"

2. For me it was a process of "growing assurance" as I gradually moved from thinking, to seeking, then to trusting.

3. Probably the most helpful event at that period of my life was when I attended a church service at Burton Street Boys' Church one Sunday night: The minister, Mr. A. M. Leghorn, preached a gospel message and called for a response and those who responded were asked to go into the church basement to be counselled.  I responded and was counselled by a mature Christian lady who, on listening to my story, realised that I was trusting Christ and that I should not doubt my salvation any longer.

4. Doubts did return but I increasingly learned not to rely on feelings but to believe the promises of Scripture and rest in them.

5. At 15 years of age I was baptized thus declaring to those who knew me best that I was now committed to following Christ.

What Christ has done and is doing in my life:

1. Having received Christ as my Saviour the Holy Spirit who now dwelt within me began to teach me and guide me.

2. Christ was gradually leading me into an understanding of changes that needed to take place in my life.

3. I had many struggles as I came to realise that many aspects of my life had been under the control of my old sinful and self-centred nature, and that nature had to give place to the new nature that God had given.

4. Gradually I learned that God's way for my life was always the best way and it became much easier to yield to Christ and allow Him to make me the person He wants me to be.

5. After following Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord for many years I have found that my life has been enriched beyond measure.

6. It gives great joy and peace and confidence in all details of my living and I have nothing to fear in life or in death.

God Bless.

Is Your Election Sure? | Print |  E-mail
Gospel - The World
Written by Peter Clements.

Difficulties with man made Elections in 2013?

The soon federal elections couched in the double duping antics of labour could prove (through votes of ignorance) a triple duping in Ausie Land.

The following is the reality of the Election we should

all count as Paramount. The one that is ETERNAL!

"Make your Calling and Election SURE"! [2 Peter 1:10.]

The following is written by: The late Peter Clements.

Written By: Peter Clements. [Cootamundra Bible Fellowship.]

¶ Are you aware that God has an election? It's not advertised on TV, or written about in the papers, but it's certainly discussed in the Bible. God is calling out a people for Himself. This is what the church is all about. Not some "holy club" or a committee of "do-gooders" trying to improve society (though hopefully it will have some impact on society for good) but rather, the "called out" ones. A people called out of the world, to become members of God's team. (God and the present world system are heading in opposite directions.)

¶ God's "elect" are, in reality, quite a small and despised team - certainly not the favorites. Jesus said that there are but two ways which we can tread through this life  (Matthew 7). First there's the broad way - the world's way which is wide, easy, and well travelled. The alternative - the way of the elect - is a narrow gate and a constricted way. According to Jesus, not many people find it, and it involves suffering and a cross - persecution by an unbelieving world. The Devil's way is well trodden and features popularity, pleasure, affluence, and ease. Little wonder it's crowded, but it leads to the unquenchable fires of Hell.

¶ How does God select His team? Quite differently from how we would! We'd be looking for well qualified, gifted, intellectual persons - men and women of standing and influence. But who does God choose? He looks, instead, for the nobodies. The despised, rejected, and downtrodden are the ones God chooses. The reason? That no one might boast of his/her natural gifts and abilities, so all the glory goes to God  (1 Corinthians 1: 26-29).

¶ When did this election take place? Way back in the secret counsels of God. Before ever the foundations of the world where laid, God had already chosen a people for Himself who would be set apart, and washed clean by the blood of Christ  (Ephesians 1:4).

¶ Is there a purpose in God's election? Assuredly there is. Like Israel of old, God calls us out of the world (Egypt) that He might bring us in to the company of his people (Canaan). God's election is not some sort of "lucky-dip" into a barrel which selects a winner for a Gold Coast holiday. (Heaven will be a big improvement on the Gold Coast!) No, God's people will not only share the joys of Heaven, but they are to worship and serve Him, and they are also granted the "privilege" of suffering for Him  (Philippians 1:29).

¶ But maybe I'm not among the elected? Texts such as John 3:16 and 1 Timothy 2:4 should allay our fears. God is not willing that any should perish. Jesus also assured us that all those whom the Father had given Him would come to Him, and he that comes, Jesus would never, in any way, cast out. If, as you read this article, your heart glows with love for Jesus Christ, there's every reason to believe that God is calling; ie God has elected YOU! You must answer Him.

¶ Can I be ousted at the next election? This is the politician's concern before an election, but it seems an active believer should not be plagued with such fears. Read  John 10 and see how God cares for, and preserves His own. If God has indeed called us, we need to be busy working that out in our daily life. "If you continue in My word, then ye are My disciples indeed" (John 8:31).

¶ "Give diligence to make your calling and election sure, for if you do these things, you shall never fall"  (2 Peter 1:10). Is your election sure?
