32. "And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33. And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; [Mark 14:32-33.]
The dynamics here in the garden as heaven confirmed the cross to be The Fathers will, and Jesus "sweat as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground" [Luke 22:44.] are truly profound. Only in glory will we have in a measure, sufficient capacity to understand, the depth of soul suffering, and the depth of the great love of Christ for all of Adam's helpless race.
Did Peter, James and John understand when they were with him in the garden? They fell asleep!
This one who created an amazing world, and modified its components in amazing ways, proving his power and deity, now is "sore amazed" at the profound "amazing" and awful requirements to negotiate our terrible sin.
Also Jesus "began .... to be heavy". He who said, "come unto me and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" [Matthew 11:28-30.] is now beginning, himself to "be very heavy". This is a dark and heavy sinful "amazing" that belonged to us, and heavy enough to pull us down to the lowest Hell! But Jesus took it all for you and me and with His great love, lifted us up, as the following Hymn says,
Love Lifted Me.
I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more, But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me, now safe am I. Refrain
Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When, no one but Christ could help Love lifted me!
All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I'll cling In His blessèd presence live, ever His praises sing, Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul's best songs, Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs.
Refrain
Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves, He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves. He's the Master of the sea, billows His will obey, He your Savior wants to be, be saved today.
Refrain
The Lord touch our hearts with His Great love more and more, and also as Paul said, "Consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds" [Hebrews 12:3.]
Jesus Loves You.
God Bless
