1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. [Galatians 5:1.]

The Law - Weak through the flesh.

"The Law could not do" Therefore being not able to do, means "bondage". Bondage to the only resource - The Flesh or self because self is flesh dependent!    For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. [Romans 7:18.]

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [Romans 8:3.]

To try and be a Christian by the Law is to produce a "Christian" image that is in bondage to self and will certainly contain various measures of sin and failure. Fancy Paul saying to believers "Stand fast in the Liberty" clearly stating that the Law will put the clampers on you and bring you into the bondage of self and sin; and this happens because only Christ has resurrection life to set free from sin and death and the Law can only beckon self to try. When the Christian claims Christ as his spiritual reality he comes up with LIFE.

When the Christian claims the Law as his spiritual reality he comes up with DEATH!    And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. [Romans 7:10.] Obviously Paul is talking about the Law being "the yoke of bondage", you could say a "marriage of bondage" and this is what Paul is talking about with his words:     4Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. [Romans 7:4.]

How blind the Galatian believers had become to want to position themselves outside of Christ to live by the Law when they can LIVE BY HIM who has raised them from the dead! If we have received LIFE from Christ what are we doing trying to LIVE by that which pronounces condemnation!  Ref.    For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. [2 Corinthians 3:9.] Here in this second letter to the Corinthian Church Paul is making very clear to the preachers at Corinth that being an able minister of the New Testament is not of "the letter" for it "kills". This ministration of the law brings condemnation and death to the "would be" obedient law adherent! Paul adds that the law is beautiful and "glorious" in its invitation but ruthless in its condemnation and ministration of death! The Law beckons toward its beautiful and spiritual goals and then turns ugly towards the failure it has produced. The Lord Jesus Christ says "come unto me" and I will lift you up and because I am your Life and your      "wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption" [1 Corinthians 1:30.] I am able to hold you up and    "perfect that which concerns you" [Psalm 138:8.]

Praise The Lord! He came to give life and life more abundantly that can lift up, restore, perfect and glorify! How thrilling to hear of a believer that is looking to Jesus and going on with Him in power from past weakness and failure. The Lord deliver the Church in these troublesome days from preachers that postulate moral codes and spiritual formulas and not the all sufficiency of the grace, and resurrection power of Christ. Indeed what strong words Paul used when he said    "O foolish Galatians; who has bewitched you?" [Galatians 3:1]

The Old Testament was a Covenant of "Law" and there was no indwelling and abiding Holy Spirit - No Christ within! So that the only resource for fulfillment of such "passive" principles, laws and statutes was "SELF" and so the only result could be -    18For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. 19For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. [Hebrews 7:18-19.]  Yes the law was UNPROFITABLE! And could anyone dare to say that now when a believer comes to Christ and is indwelt by Him that Christ will be unprofitable! And yet (horror of horrors) Paul says so to the Galatians with the following words -     2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. [Galatians 5:2-3.] The Lord teach us in an ever deepening way that He is our Life and to live by Him!
