Galatians 5:5-6.
» Physical creation created by The Spirit «
"...And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and God said let there be light" [Genesis 1:2-3.] ¶ The Power behind all of creation is Spiritual Power! The creation of man was in the Image of God. Jesus said; God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Adam was a powerful spiritual man, a godly man; but because of the ruin of sin has become a "fleshly" weak "ungodly" sinful man, trembling at death!
» The Unregenerate State is a Fleshly State «
¶ The whole human race is in this awful plight of pending ruin at the gates of death. Man in his unregenerate state is as Solomon said.. "I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts". [Ecclesiastes 3:18.] When man fell from his high status of being in the image of God - spiritual and powerful; the only remaining realm of life was his "flesh".
¶ It is important to realise the horror state of the beginning of the human race; the first person "born" into the human race killed the second person born of a woman! A great foundation and "origin" of the human race! Jesus said, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.....for he is a liar, and the father of it." [John 8:44.]
¶ The Lord gave the following fleshly description of mankind just before the destruction of Noah's flood.. "And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. [Genesis 6:3&5.] Wonderfully Jesus has and provides the great answer to mans great need to be recreated in the image of God, and in his discourse to Nicodemus says, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. [John 3:3.] A sinner begins the christian life in the realm of his spirit by The Spirit of God when he comes to Jesus and believes on him alone for salvation from sin and death; at this point he is "born again". This marvellous beginning of being reconciled to and becomming a child of God through birth, happens "through The Spirit".
» All "through The Spirit": no work of self «
¶ George Muller was faced with a crisis one morning in the Orphanage and with no milk for breakfast he proceeded to thank The Lord with the children for His provision, and promptly there was a knock at the door with an enquiry from the local milkman if the orphanage could use some milk because the milk cart had a broken wheel and the milk load had to be wasted or used! This was no "work of the flesh" or "self effort" ALL was "through the Spirit"!
» "Through the Spirit" happens through faith! «
¶ Where there is a lack of things operating "through the Spirit" in the local church there is evidence of the flesh and a temperament (as evident among the Galatians) to "bite and devour one another" (5:15.). There is nothing more thrilling and encouraging than to see the evidence of the Lord's work. The Lord works "through the Spirit" man works through his flesh! Paul said the Galatian church had "fallen from grace" [5:4.]. Where there is faith there is grace and a work "through the Spirit".
» "Faith which worketh by Love" [Galatians 5:6.] «
¶ It is amazing how we exercise faith to be saved by grace and then rush off at a thousand miles per hour in our own strength to do the Lord's work! How great is our need to wait upon the Lord by Faith for his working and leading "through the Spirit". Paul in another place says, "whatsoever is not of faith is sin" [Romans 14:23.] Did we receive the Spirit by some external discipline or conduct? No: by "the hearing of faith". Faith in Jesus Christ working by love produces in the believer rivers of living water "through the Spirit". John7:38-39.
» Through the Spirit means no self Action! «
¶ The mighty and very significant 1st. Missionery journey of Paul (which was the beginning of the gospel reaching out to the gentile world) began with a noted move "through the Spirit" - "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laidtheir hands on them, they sent them away.* [Acts 13:2-3.] First: A prisoner of Christ "through the Spirit. Second: Christ's work "through the Spirit"
» Experience "through the Spirit" = Be "of the Spirit" «
¶ How great is God's longing to bring us more and more into his miraculous plans and purposes "through the Spirit". We cannot and will not experience anything major of this work of grace without major changes in us of being delivered from all carnality through "sanctification of the Spirit" [1 Peter 1:2.] "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live".[Romans 8:13.] The word "Live" here means "Quick" or "Quickend".
Jesus Loves You.
God Bless.
