How wonderful is the Lord to so announce Himself to us today.
This Church was very needy and missing the true blessing with the Lord left outside, and yet He is so gracious and this is His heart toward you and me today.
We,the Church worldwide right now are living in this "Laodicean lukewarm" age of Church History just prior to The Coming of The Lord as we read of the next event in the book of Revelation 4:1. there is a "Trumpet" that talks and says "Come up hither" which is clearly the rapture event in type as we read in another place - "and the Trumpet shall sound and the dead in Christ shall rise and we which remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet The Lord in the air: so shall we be ever with The Lord." [1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.]
The most beautiful Invitation that we can possibly receive!
This thrilling announcement is really to us Christians though it is much used as a gospel text and invitation to receive Christ for salvation. I used to put the word "will" in front of "hear" and leave the word "will" out, just before "sup" and both instances where the word "will" is, conveys a very precious insight into the great heart and willingness of The Lord to bring us into great things He has prepared for us, but we will leave that for the present time to just concentrate on this great Grace that can lead us triumphantly into the offerings made to those who "overcome" in verse 21.
Sometimes we are not willing to listen to The Lord for one reason or another, either self or sin or trouble or just plain to busy with our own spiritual programme that we are running "for The Lord" to include Him and so He doesn't press the "will" part about hearing his knock, but just leaves it that if you happen to hear, just Open The Door and the wonderful part is He will come in of course, BUT He offers to first "sup" with you, in other words The Lord will let us talk and He will listen, Isn't that wonderful! With all that He could say to us at times, The Lord is just willing to give way to us to unburden and let it all out what our trouble is, what our brokenness is - hear it all, then put His loving hand on us like he did to John on the Isle of Patmos and say "fear not" and then dry our tears, take every sorrow, every burden, forgive all that needs to be forgiven, cleanse all that needs to be cleansed as he washed the disciples feet and then....
wonder of wonders Invites us to now have the thrill of "supping" with Him, and hearing of His love and goodness and how He has the best for us, Revealing His glory and the greatness of His calling and provision of that which "works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of Glory". [2 Corinthians 4:17.]
Isn't that so wonderful and Gracious of the Lord, there is no expectation of "now you just measure up, how dare you leave me outside knocking for so long, now You Listen to me!"
No, as Zechariah said "How Great is His goodness How Great is His Beauty" [Zechariah 9:17.] He first offers to listen to you and put every tear as David said "put thou my tears into Thy bottle." [Psalm 56:8.]
It is indeed a very precious thing that The Lord of heaven and Earth offers first to Listen to us as he says "I will come into him and sup with him" His Will is Giving, healing and "lifting up". Dear brother and sister come to Him on your knees, Jesus loves You and you can tell Him everything and cast every care upon Him.
The Devil can roar about The Lord's will being second rate but what a lie as is revealed in this sad and sorry state of the Laodicean church, The Lord in the face of their spiritual Bankruptcy of "shame, wretchedness, blindness, misery and spiritual poverty" offers to sup with them if only in hearing his voice, they would JUST OPEN THE DOOR!
Rejoice much in this invitation.
David spoke of this experience in Psalm 51. And in realizing exclaimed.......
I was shapen in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me,
Thou desirest Truth in the Inward Parts: and in the Hidden Part Thou shalt make me to know Wisdom" [Psalm 51:5-6.]
Herein is a wonderful truth. David says "behold" 2 times because there are primarily only two great matters to take into serious account and that is....
- The Mould that we were born out of and shaped in was Iniquity! This matter of our mean "substructure" is and does become as The Lord is allowed to deal with us, of grave concern and this is revealed as common experience...Isaiah said, "Woe is me" [Isaiah 6:5.] Paul said, "O wretched man that I am" [Romans 7:24.] Job said, "I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes" and a real consideration in Job's case is that The Lord had declared to Satan that there was "none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feareth God and escheweth evil" [Job 1:8. and 42:5-6.] and yet Job from unintentional hidden "self righteousness" and "self love" which is the woven core of our sinful nature said after The Lord uncovered his faultiness "I abhore myself" This experience of truth as David said "in the inward parts" about our unworthiness is essential and there could be much more said about the fact that self and sin is the cause of All lack of spiritual Growth and hindrance in advancing in The Purpose of God. But as we learn this very crucial lesson time and time again as the Lord deals with us we are able to in "lowliness of mind" [Phillipines 2:3.] move onto more and more of the Glorious Revelation of......
- "In The Hidden Part Thou shalt make me to know Wisdom" which is the Glorious Wisdom that is found only in Christ as The Word declares "Christ The Wisdom of God and the Power of God" [1 Corinthians 1:24.] and also "Of Him are ye in Christ Jesus who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption." [1 Corinthians 1:30.] There is much "hidden" as Jesus said "I thank Thee O Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them unto babes" [Matthew 11:25.] and that's what The Lord said to the Laodicean Church "And knowest not that thou art wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked, I counsel thee to buy of me Gold tried in the fire that thou mayest be Rich...." [Revelation 3:17.] They knew not their awful spiritual condition and The Lord was willing to have them "sup" with Him and in the "hidden part" make them to know His Glorious wisdom for all their great neediness and The Wisdom of The Glory and Beauty that He has prepared for them. How Wonderful and Great is the Lord's Grace toward us! How true are the words that Isaiah penned 700 years before his coming, "His name shall be called......
The Lord Greatly encourage you in this great invitation to "Sup with Him" as the Shulamite maid said "He brought me to the Banqueting House and His Banner over me was Love" [Song of Solomon 2:4.] and in that Banqueting house discover as David did "the hidden part" of, as the amplified Bible says "The Wonders of His Person" and the Glorious "Riches of His Grace" [Ephesians 2:7.]
Jesus Loves You.

The Lord Bless you much in The "Amen" of all His rich promise.
